In this post, I will show you how to enable running commands on the Windows operating system for TortoiseSVN. At TortoiseSVN default settings, you can only use the Graphical User Interface (GUI), so you may have been surprised that the system did not recognize the svn command.

It is necessary to install CLI if you want to resolve the error: ‘svn’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Adding CLI during installation

Stop for a moment when installing TortoiseSVN on choosing features that will be installed by default. You should see that the command line client tool field is excluded from the installation.

Click on this field and select Will be installed on local hard drive
