Talend Open Studio
Talend Open Studio is a free and open-source data integration tool that is used to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources to various destinations. It is a powerful and flexible platform that is well-suited for data integration tasks of all sizes, from simple data loading to complex data transformation and integration processes.
Talend Open Studio provides a graphical user interface that allows you to design and build ETL processes without writing any code. It includes a wide range of pre-built connectors and components for popular data sources and destinations, as well as a library of transformation and integration functions.
To use Talend Open Studio, you will need to install it on your computer and create a new project. From there, you can use the drag-and-drop interface to build your ETL process by dragging components onto the canvas and connecting them together. You can then run your ETL process to extract data from the source, transform it as needed, and load it into the destination.
Talend Open Studio is a popular choice for data integration tasks, and is used by companies and organizations around the world to manage and integrate their data. It is easy to use and offers a wide range of features and functionality, making it a powerful and flexible tool for ETL tasks of all kinds.
ETL stands for Extract, Transform, Load, and refers to the process of extracting data from one or more sources, transforming it to fit the requirements of the destination system, and then loading it into the destination system. ETL is a common technique used in data integration and data warehousing to move and manipulate data from various sources to a central repository or data warehouse.
The extract phase of the ETL process involves extracting data from the source systems. This can involve reading data from a database, a file, or another type of data source. The data is typically extracted in its raw format, with minimal processing or transformation.
The transform phase involves applying various transformations to the data to prepare it for loading into the destination system. This can include tasks such as filtering, sorting, aggregating, and formatting the data. The goal of the transform phase is to prepare the data in a way that is suitable for the destination system and meets any requirements or constraints that it may have.
The load phase involves loading the transformed data into the destination system. This can involve writing the data to a database, a file, or another type of destination. The data may be loaded directly into the destination system, or it may be temporarily stored in a staging area before being loaded into the destination system.
ETL is a key component of data integration and data warehousing, and is used to manage and integrate data from various sources in a consistent and reliable manner.
Installation of Talend Open Studio Data Integration on Windows
1. Download TOS tool
The TOS package should be downloaded automatically.
2. Run the installer
Some time ago, Talend provided open-source tools as ZIP packages – so if you come across such a version, remember to unpack it in the directory where you want to store the TOS tool. During downloading the TOS Data Integration 7.2.1 version. for Windows, you will automatically download a file with the .EXE extension. I always run files with this extension in administrator mode (Run as administrator).
I install my tool in the Talend_Tutorial directory on drive C. After setting the appropriate directory, select Install.
After completing the installation, close the window – Close:
3.Run TOS (Installation of Talend Open Studio Data Integration)
In the directory which you chose (for me Talend_Tutorial), Talend installed all necessary files. Run the .exe file (TOS_DI-win-x86_64.exe for me) and then accept the license terms:
In the next step, TOS will ask if you want to create a new project, import an existing one or upload a DEMO project. We will create a new project called Tutorial:
Finish the process by selecting Finish. Your new tool should greet you with the following pop-up:
Install Talend Open Studio on Ubuntu
Download TOS tool
Similarly to installation on Windows, download the installation package from the following page:
Then scroll down the mouse cursor until you find the tab dedicated to the remaining version of TOS DI. Choose Other Releases:
In the next step, select the version of the tool you are interested in the Ubuntu version (for me 7.2.1) and download it by clicking US and Europe:
After the download is complete, extract the contents of the ZIP directory, and then Open Terminal in it. Install Talend Open Studio and Run the TOS_DI-linux-gtk-x86.sh file using the following command:
