In this short post I will show you how to install Oracle SQL Developer on Ubuntu" 18.04, Ubuntu" 20.04" or even Ubuntu" 22.04! Don’t waste tour time, just install it!
How to install Oracle SQL Developer on Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04 Or 22.04?
Download the latest version of Oracle" tool from the official Oracle website. Select “Other Platforms” and click Download.

Unzip it in the selected folder and go to the unpacked directory and run the script: sqldeveloper.sh. You should see the the following output.
pawel@pawel: ./sqldeveloper.sh Oracle SQL Developer Copyright (c) 2005, 2018, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. Warning: Nashorn engine is planned to be removed from a future JDK release
After a while, we can start using the software. No you can create connection to some database". Basically SQL Developer" was created to manage Oracle" Database, but you can install plugins to work with other databases like Hive" for instance.
Based on my experience the Oracle" SQLDeveloper is slow and heavy tool. Rather, I recommend you something lighter and more universal like DBeaver. Using DBeaver" you can easily establish connections to various Databases. When some libraries are missing the DBeaver" will automatically select and download the required libs for you. It is a much lighter tool and more reliable tool than Oracle".
