Microsoft Azure

Azure" offers a variety of tools and services for developing and managing applications, including machine learning", analytics, and Internet of Things (IoT), as well as many other services such as virtual machines, databases, and networking. Developers can use Azure" to build, deploy, and scale web, mobile, and other types of applications. It also offers a range of tools and services for designing, building, and managing infrastructure.
Azure" is designed to be a flexible and secure platform that meets the needs of organizations of all sizes, from small startups to large enterprises. It offers a range of pricing and payment options, including pay-as-you-go and discounted pricing for long-term commitments.
Hortonworks
Hortonworks" is a company that provides products, services, and support for Apache Hadoop" and related open" source big data" technologies. Hadoop" is a framework for storing, processing, and analyzing large data sets, and is often used for tasks such as data mining, machine learning", and log processing. Hortonworks" offers a range of products and services based on Hadoop", including the Hortonworks" Data Platform (HDP), a distribution of Hadoop" and related tools, and the Hortonworks Sandbox", a pre-configured environment for learning, developing, and testing Hadoop" applications. The company also provides professional services, training, and support to help organizations adopt and use Hadoop" and related technologies.
Hortonworks Sandbox
Hortonworks Sandbox" is a pre-configured, easy-to-use environment for learning, developing, and testing new applications using Apache Hadoop" and related projects. It is available as a virtual machine or as a cloud service, and can be run on your local computer or on a cloud platform such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft" Azure".
The Sandbox includes a range of tools and sample data, along with tutorials and examples to help you get started with Hadoop" and related technologies. It is a great way to learn about Hadoop" and big data" concepts, and to try out new ideas and applications without having to set up a full Hadoop" cluster.
Virtual Machine
A virtual machine (VM) is a software-based emulation of a computer system. It allows you to run an operating system and applications on a computer or device that would not normally be able to run them. VMs are used for a variety of purposes, including testing, development, and running legacy software.
A virtual machine is created using virtualization software, which creates a “virtual” version of a computer’s hardware, including the CPU, memory, storage, and network interfaces. The virtual hardware is then used to run an operating system and applications just like a physical computer. However, the virtual machine runs on top of a host operating system and shares the resources of the host, such as memory and CPU.
VMs are useful because they allow you to run multiple operating systems and applications on the same physical hardware, and they can be easily created, deleted, and moved between different host systems. They also provide a level of isolation and security, as the applications and operating systems running in a VM are separated from the host and from other VMs.
Azure Sandbox
Azure" Sandbox is a cloud-based environment provided by Microsoft" Azure" that allows developers and IT professionals to test new applications and technologies without impacting their production systems. It is a self-contained environment that can be used for a variety of purposes, including testing new software, trying out new configurations, and developing and testing applications. Azure" Sandbox provides access to a range of tools and resources, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and other services, and can be used to create a variety of different environments, such as development, test, staging, and production. Azure" Sandbox is a flexible and scalable solution that can be used to support a wide range of development and testing needs.
Create a new resource in Azure using existing Hortonworks Sandbox with HDP image
Please log into your portal Azure" and click into the button “Create a resource”. In the search text field please type “Hortonworks” (it will be enought to find the image which we are looking for) and click “Create” button.
Configure virutual machine
In Basics configuration please set:
- Name of virtual machine.
- Username and password
- Please select “Create new resource group” and set “hortonworks” value for instance.
- Select location. In my case I selected West Europe.
Choose VM size
Please select B2ms size of virtual machine. It will cover the minimal hardware requirements for Hortonworks" Data Platform.
Setup Static IP address and select inbound ports
In settings please change the public IP from Dynamic to Static. It will give us the same IP address for your virtual machine after each restart or stop and run.
In settings please select also inbound ports and click OK like in the following screen.
Deploy the Virtual Machine
Go to “Summary” tab and click “Create” button.
